Just like any other pet, dogs require grooming to keep them looking good and smart. A lot of dog owners go to the extent of having custom made clothes for their dogs and buys them shoes. Well, its not just clothing that makes a dog look good. Here are some dog-grooming tips shared by Chevromist, a leading dog Kennel in Australia.

Nail Trimming: A dog’s nails may break when they grow too long. It could be very painful for the dog. The common problem of dog owners is that it’s difficult to safely hold the dog’s paws to clip their nails. Often, their nails get clipped too short. When it comes to nail trimming, it is advisable to get help from professional pet groomers or a veterinarian to ensure it is done safely, on the other hand, the pet owner can learn how to do it properly by asking the vet.

Hair Cuts and Hair Brushing: Some breeds have continually growing hair, for these breeds it is advised to have regular hair cuts every six weeks. Learning how to do it is quite easy, but If the owner is not comfortable, it is advised that he bring the dog to a pet groomer. Brush the dog’s hair weekly if it is a hairy breed, and monthly for the shorthaired ones.

Bathing: It is a must to bathe he dog every month. But if you have the time, you can do it weekly. But its best to first ask your vet what kind of dog shampoo or soap is suitable for your dog. Some dogs have sensitive skin so a professional advise is needed.

I used to believe that dogs should be bathed everyday until the vet advised me it could dry up the dog's coat. Overdoing things with pets can be harmful sometimes. Its best to ask the experts for proper advice.

I would never cut my dog's nails on my own! I'm too scared to hurt him. I'd rather pay a pet groomer. :)
